Overheard at a recent sculpture installation:
“I hate aluminum sculpture!”
“Why?” I asked.
“It corrodes.”
“It cracks.”
“And paint falls off in sheets!”
“Ah…” I conceded.
And then I asked, “When was the last time you flew on an airplane?”
“Last week” was the answer.
“Was it corroded?”
“Was it cracked?”
“Was the paint falling off in sheets?”
I could see a light turn on.
“Maybe the problem isn’t aluminum, but inexperienced fabricators who don’t understand how to work with aluminum?”
“Ah!”
